Arguably one
of Sydney’s, and even possibly Australia’s, most iconic and recognisable architectural
achievements is the Sydney Harbour Bridge. In its time, it made history for being
the longest and widest spanning arch bridge. This is not what makes this bridge
legendary however, what does though is the unique design of the two sets of massive
pylons on either end with the steel arch linking the two. This is what makes it
unmistakeable and makes it an Aussie icon, being able to see this image
everywhere from tourist souvenirs to company logos.
Not only
that, but over the years, we Australians have also developed an appreciation for
this engineering masterpiece. Allowing for people from one side of the city to travel
to the other side, whether it is by car, bus, train or on foot. This bridge is
further imbedded in our lives and even in our culture through events held that
bring people from all parts of the country together. For many, the Sydney
Harbour Bridge is the first thing they see to start the new year...each and
every year!
