Sri Mariamman Temple, Singapore

The Sri Mariammam Temple is a Hindu temple that is located in Singapore. It takes the spot as Singapore's oldest agamic temple and was designed and built using pillars (similar to Gopura, which is commonly used in Dravidian architecture methodologies).

JUST AN FYI: Dravidian architecture is an architectural idiom in Hindu temple architecture that emerged in the southern part of the Indian subcontinent or South India, reaching its final form by the sixteenth century.

Every pillar, Gopura, was intricately made with colourful and elaborate designs. Each tower is 6 pillars high, and is made with sandstone, soapstone or granite. Each design is carved with Hindu deities and mythological beasts, and is always pyramid shaped, narrowing straight up towards the sky.
At this temple, as seen in the picture, next to gopura are two sculptures of two very significant Hindu gods, Murugan and Krishna. Krishna, the blue-skinned god, is a warrior and preacher. Murugan, is the god of war.
