The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China is an enormous architectural wonder of Chinese value and heritage that stretches across 6500km of terrain. It's initial phases of construction began during the Qing Dynasty, however it was completely built and solidified during the Ming Dynasty and later during the 16th Century. It has an average height of 25 feet, across the 25000 watch/signal towers, and acts as a gigantic barricade.

It passes through all types of land such as plains swamps and hills, and is primarily contains three significant structures:

  1. Walls
    • This structure is the main portion of the entire architectural sculpture, with an average height of 8meters across the wall. The wall's entire base equates to be 6.5meters wide. WOW
  2. Passes
    • Secure passes, were consistently built across the Great Wall, and average at about 10meters in height and 5metres of width.
    • What's really intriguing about these 'passes' is that they had hidden access to ramps and ladders that were use for getting soldiers, merchants and transportation vehicles across both sides.
  3. Signal Towers
    • On the Great Wall, signal towers were used as a form of communication between military troops. Things like smoke signals and fire beacons were used to transmit military information.
    • These stations are positioned 18km apart from each other and are usually located on the top of hills.
